Located in the town of Biei, the pond is both mysterious and beautiful with its bright blue water in contrast with the green trees surrounding it.
The pond has many different faces and changes its appearance depending on the season. In autumn, the trees turn a vivid shade of yellow, making the contrast with the blue even more prominent. On a still day with no wind, the whole pond becomes like a canvas, reflecting the blue sky and green trees surrounding it. On early mornings in spring, the water can sometimes be frozen making the surface look like white sand with the vivid blue shining through from below.
From mid-May to mid-June you may be lucky enough to see the pond turn a shade of emerald green.
The Shirahige waterfall is just 2km away from the pond and also not to be missed.
