Relax
Located in the town of Otofuke in Hokkaido and listed as a heritage site, the hot springs along the Tokachigawa River were known by the local Ainu people as ‘Kusuri no Yu’ meaning ‘Herbal/healing hot spring’.
Unlike other springs which come from volcanoes (giving them a distinct smell of sulfur), these are ‘Moor hot springs’ where the water is from ancient plants and organic matter from deep below the ground, heated by geothermal water. These springs are very rare and are great for relaxing and healing the body as well as moisturising the skin.
Even drinking the water is said to have multiple health benefits.
