Hokkaido is famous for its abundance of seafood, including crabs. In the town of Hiroo in the Tokachi District, East Hokkaido, the massive ‘Crab Festival’ takes place where visitors can taste fresh crabs boiled in a giant pot up to 2 metres in diameter as well as try crab miso soup. If you are still hungry, you can enjoy a variety of other seafood such as squid or octopus grilled freshly on site.
Join the crab eating contest for fun or try your luck in the lottery where you could win a special prize!
This event is held annually on the second Sunday in December.
